As a part of my 2025 Summer project, I focused on the narrative of ‘Sonder’, meaning, ‘the realisation that each passerby is living a life just as complex as your own’.
I originally wanted to create this feeling in my images using a mix of shutter speed and editing techniques; however, I found my original two images too bland and not chaotic or busy enough to relay the scenario I was trying to create. Because of this, I ended up relying heavily on editing techniques, e.g. I inverted whole images and turned them into complete, but bizarrely colourful, negatives.
I also edited multiple of my model’s portraits and some city landscapes together too, in order to tell the stories of the different perspectives within this emotion; the person experiencing sonder, and the individuals or situations causing them to experience it.
